What is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry uses medication to help you feel relaxed during your treatment. Depending on the type of sedation used, you may feel mildly calm, deeply relaxed, or even sleep through the entire procedure. Although sedation helps you stay comfortable, local anesthetic is still used to numb the treatment area, ensuring you remain completely pain-free.

At Anchor Dental Implant Center, we offer a variety of sedation options to meet your needs. Whether you prefer light relaxation or deeper sedation, our MD-led sedation ensures your experience is stress-free, comfortable, and efficient. We provide sedation options such as nitrous oxide, intravenous (IV) sedation, and general anesthesia, all carefully monitored by our in-house MD anesthesiologist.

Why is Sedation Needed?

Sedation can greatly enhance your experience, especially if you:
  • Struggle with dental anxiety or panic attacks
  • Are undergoing a longer or more complex procedure
  • Have a sensitive gag reflex
  • Want a smoother, more comfortable treatment experience
  • Prefer to remain calm or unaware during implant surgery
Sedation helps your body stay relaxed, allowing the procedure to be performed efficiently and comfortably while keeping you at ease. With MD-led sedation, you can feel confident that you're in safe hands, whether you're undergoing a simple treatment or a more complicated procedure.

Who is a Candidate for Sedation?

Before recommending sedation, our team will review your medical history and discuss your comfort level, treatment needs, and available options. Most healthy individuals are good candidates for sedation, but we’ll ensure the safest approach based on your unique needs.

For oral or IV sedation, you’ll need a trusted friend or family member to drive you home after the appointment, as it is not safe to operate a vehicle following sedation.

What Happens During Sedation?

Sedation dentistry is designed to help you feel calm, safe, and completely at ease throughout your visit. Once your chosen sedation method is selected, the process is simple and carefully monitored for your comfort.

For IV Conscious Sedation, a small needle is placed into your arm and attached to an intravenous line. During the appointment, the sedative is continuously administered via a drip, keeping you comfortably relaxed or asleep until the needle is removed. After the procedure, you'll be taken to a recovery room to gently wake up and rest before going home.

Types of Sedation We Offer

At Anchor Dental Implant Center, we provide a full range of sedation options to ensure your experience is calm, comfortable, and stress-free. Our MD-led sedation ensures that you're in the best hands, with a medical doctor overseeing your care every step of the way.

Oral Sedation

A prescription medication is taken before your procedure to help calm anxiety and promote deep relaxation. Oral sedation may provide mild to moderate sedation, depending on your needs. Because it can cause drowsiness, you will need someone to accompany you home after your appointment.

IV Conscious Sedation

IV sedation is delivered directly into the bloodstream for rapid, controlled relaxation. With this option, you remain conscious and able to respond to instructions, but you may have little to no memory of the procedure afterward. A driver is required for transportation following your treatment.

General Anesthesia

For more complex or invasive procedures, such as full-mouth reconstruction, general anesthesia may be used. Our in-house MD anesthesiologist ensures that you are fully asleep, providing the highest level of comfort and safety during your procedure. This option is ideal for patients with severe anxiety or those undergoing extensive treatments. You can rest assured knowing you are in expert hands throughout the entire process.
